Find your finish
The right polish. A better finish.
400, 1000, 2500 or 3800? Choose by the correction your paint needs.
Start with a test spot
Use the least aggressive combination that gets the result.
A product number is a name, not a grit rating or a sequence. You do not need all four products. The paint, pad, machine and technique all affect the cut and finish.
| Product | What it does | When to choose it | What comes next |
|---|---|---|---|
| 400Heavy Cut Compound | Strong correction with a comparatively refined finish. | More pronounced defects in suitable glossy automotive clear coat. A cutting pad and test spot help establish the result. | Inspect under good light. Refine with 2500 or 3800 only if needed, then protect. |
| 1000Heavy Cut Compound | A dedicated heavy-cut stage, suited to a foam cutting pad. | Heavier signs of wear where a separate correction and refinement process is appropriate. | Plan to refine with a medium polish, then a finishing polish if needed before protection. |
| 2500Medium Cut Polish | Balances correction of moderate defects with gloss. | Moderate swirls and marks, or refinement after a heavier compound. | Inspect the finish. Use 3800 for further refinement if required, or move to protection. |
| 3800Super Finish Plus | Fine finishing for light micro-marring and holograms. | Already well-corrected paint that needs a final gloss step, especially where fine marks show on dark colours. | Apply a suitable wax, sealant or coating after its required preparation. |
Prepare
Wash and decontaminate appropriately. Work on clean, cool paint and inspect its condition. Protect edges and adjacent trim. Do not polish matt or satin finishes without the vehicle maker’s approval.
Test and inspect
Choose a compatible pad and follow the directions for your exact formulation and machine. Work a small area, wipe the residue and inspect. Do not keep cutting to chase a deep scratch: polishing removes material.
Refine and protect
If the test leaves haze, try a finer combination. These four products are correction or finishing polishes, so plan a separate protection step. A common multi-stage example is 400 → 2500 → 3800, only where the paint needs it.
