Beginner guide · Polishing

Polish with a plan.

Polishing removes a little paint material. Start gently, test a small area and stop when the finish is good enough.

Before you start

A suitable polisher or approved hand applicator, matching medium and soft finishing pads, clean microfibre cloths, masking tape and separate paint protection. Check pad diameter against your backing plate. The two-bottle bundle includes no pads or machine.

  1. Prepare the surface

Wash, dry and check for bonded contamination. Clean it appropriately before polishing. Protect sensitive trim and inspect the paint; get professional advice for unknown, damaged or very thin paint.

  2. Make a test spot

Begin with the least aggressive combination that meets your goal. Menzerna 2500 addresses moderate defects; 3800 is a finer finishing option. You do not need to use every grade.

  3. Work in stages

Use the pad, pressure and machine settings recommended for the specific polish. Work a small area in overlapping passes, keep the pad clean and inspect after wiping away residue.

  4. Refine only if needed

If 2500 leaves haze, use a separate soft finishing pad with 3800. Do not treat one heavy-cut pad as suitable for every stage. Avoid building heat or repeatedly cutting edges.

  5. Protect the result

Neither 2500 nor 3800 is the final protective layer. Prepare and protect the finished surface using your chosen wax, sealant or coating manufacturer’s instructions.

Always check the product label and safety data sheet for your exact formulation, plus your vehicle’s care instructions. Use the stated protective equipment and test suitability first.
